History
A story of growth, major investment, and strengthening market position — from the Company's first production facilities to becoming one of the industry's leading brewers.
The Baltika Story
Baltika Brewery was built based on a design developed by the Gipropishcheprom-2 Institute as one of the breweries within Lenpivo, the Leningrad Brewing and Soft Drinks Production Association.
1978
Construction of the brewery began.
The first batch of beer reached retail shelves in November 1990. Production at the time totaled just 27 thousand litres. There was not yet a unified Baltika brand, and the brewery produced beer under well-known labels including Zhigulevskoye, Rizhskoye, Admiralteyskoye and Prazdnichnoye.
1990
Following the completion of construction, the State Enterprise Baltika Brewery was officially established.
1991
Taymuraz K. Bolloev became the head of Baltika.
By that time, he already had extensive brewing industry experience, having spent ten years working at the Stepan Razin Brewery in Leningrad, where he advanced to the position of Chief Technologist.
1992
Under the leadership of Taymuraz Bolloev, the privatization of the brewery began.
As part of the process, the enterprise was reorganized into an open joint-stock company. In 1993, Baltic Beverages Holding became its largest shareholder.
At around the same time, development of the Baltika brand began. The vision was to create a premium European-quality beer brewed according to traditional brewing methods. To achieve this, the Company's management launched its first investment program focused on modernization and expansion. As a result, Baltika became the first brewery in Russia to be equipped with advanced European brewing technology.
1991–2004
During Taymuraz Bolloev's tenure as President, Baltika became the undisputed leader of the Russian brewing market, while the Baltika brand grew into one of Russia's best-known consumer brands both domestically and internationally.
1997
Baltika began its regional expansion by acquiring a controlling stake in the Donskoye Pivo brewery in Rostov-on-Don.
1998
Shareholders approved the Board of Directors' decision to rename the company Baltika Breweries OJSC.
1999
In October, the Tulskoye Pivo brewery became part of Baltika.
2004
In August, Baltika opened the most technologically advanced malt house in the CIS in Tula, producing malt exclusively from premium barley varieties.
2005
Baltika launched its own agricultural program. Its primary objective was to produce brewing barley fully compliant with European brewing standards and quality requirements.
2006
Baltika merged with three Russian brewing companies: Vena (Saint Petersburg), Pikra (Krasnoyarsk) and Yarpivo (Yaroslavl).
From 2007 onward, the companies operated as a single legal entity. In 2009, one of the Company's production facilities in Saint Petersburg (the former Vena brewery) was closed due to excess production capacity in the region.
2007
On March 5, Baltika commissioned the first phase of its malt house in Yaroslavl.
The facility's production capacity exceeded 50,000 tonnes of malt per year. In 2009, the second phase of the malt house was commissioned, increasing annual production capacity to 105,000 tonnes.
2008
Baltika became part of the international Carlsberg Group.
2022
Carlsberg announced its decision to completely exit the Russian market.
